One of TV’s best loved actors, Kevin Kennedy, trades the well worn cobblestones of Weatherfield for the boards of the West End stage this coming Monday, September 6, when he makes his opening night in the Queen/Ben Elton hit musical We Will Rock You at London’s Dominion Theatre.

Kennedy, best known for his twenty-year role as Coronation Street’s unlucky-in-love Curly Watts, takes on the role of aging hippy ‘Pop’, the man who alone knows the secrets of the ‘hidden rock’ and will take any measure to keep them concealed.

Kevin joins the London production of the show following his triumph in the same role in last year’s touring production, which set new audience records throughout the UK.

Although most widely recognized for his long running ‘Corrie’ role, Kevin has all the right makings to play ‘Pop’, a man who knows the ‘rock’ histories. It is a subject he knows well: he was bass player in the band Paris Valentinos which also featured Johnny Marr and Andy Rourke who went on to play in The Smiths. He then formed his own band, Band of Thieves. Later, signed by Simon Cowell under his own name, he had a gold selling album, Present Kennedy. Today he is an artist signed to Warner Records.

For the stage, Kevin has also appeared in the West End as Amos in Chicago the Musical and as both Caractacus Potts and the Child Catcher in Chitty Chitty Bang Bang.

Kevin joins the new London cast playing from September 6, which also includes Brenda Edwards as ‘Killer Queen’, Sarah French as ‘Scaramouche’,  Rachel John as ‘Meat’, with returning actors Ricardo Afonso as ‘Galileo’, Alex Bourne as ‘Khashoggi’ and Ian Carlyle as ‘Britney’.

Brenda Edwards will appear from September 20. Rachel John from November 1.

With over 3100 performances behind it, and holding the record for the longest running show ever at the Dominion, We Will Rock You continues to show great strength  as it heads for the start of its tenth year in London, a landmark it will reach next spring. Bookings are now being taken through to April 2011.

The show, while continuing at the Dominion, will begin a second UK tour this December, opening in Manchester, and rolling out around the country throughout the year. Concurrently, foreign language productions are set to open across Europe in the Netherlands, Sweden and Berlin, Germany.

WE WILL ROCK YOU is a Queen Theatrical Productions/Phil McIntyre Entertainment/Tribeca production.  9th year at the Dominion Theatre, Tottenham Court Road, London, W1. Tottenham Court Road tube station. Booking to April 2011.

Performances Monday – Friday 7.30pm.  Saturdays 2.30pm and 7.30pm. Additional matinee last Wednesday each month and school holidays 2:30pm. Ticket line: 0844 847 1775.
