We Will Rock You reaches 2nd birthday

and Celebrates with Special ‘Sock You' Fundraiser Performance for Sport Relief '04

Dominion Theatre, London, May 11, 2004, 7:30pm

When it comes to rock and sports anthems, Queen take the crown. And that's official. A recent poll of the great British public named the band's classic track We Will Rock You as the top rock anthem of all time. It also came out as the sports match favourite.

And not only here in the UK; in America the track is one of the USA's most played songs as well as a sports anthem to hundreds of organisations and teams throughout the country.

So, if any one song seems to capture the spirit of Sport Relief, We Will Rock You has to be the front runner.

That's why Sport Relief has teamed up with Queen, Ben Elton, and Phil McIntyre Entertainment and Tribeca, producers of their hit West End musical We Will Rock You, for a special fundraiser performance next Tuesday, May 11. The evening will also celebrate We will Rock You's second birthday, having been running for two champion year's at The Dominion Theatre. The night will also introduce a new cast who take the show into its third year. All proceeds from the evening will be donated to Sport Relief '04.

Brian May has promised to be there to help encourage guests to go the extra mile for Sport Relief, and he and Ben Elton have hinted that they may do something special to make this a night that really SOCKS it to you.

Sport Relief was set up by Comic Relief and BBC Sport to tackle poverty and disadvantage, both in the UK and in some of the poorest countries around the world. Its debut in 2002 raised more than £14 million, and that money is now hard at work. This time around, with everyone, including We Will Sock You ‘Going the Extra Mile', Sport Relief is aiming to do even better.
